X10 V3 — Sensorless HDD Brushless Motor Driver

PCBA DESIGN · OEM / ODM

X10 V3 is a compact sensorless driver for low-power three-phase brushless DC motors, including electrically compatible HDD spindle motors. No Hall sensors are required. An onboard potentiometer sets speed, with additional analog, PWM, direction, brake and speed-feedback interfaces. This is a motor driver, not a hard-drive data controller; verify startup, speed and load capability with the intended motor.

6–20 V DC | 2 A Rated / 3 A Peak | No Hall Sensors | 34 × 27 × 11 mm

Key Features

  • Three-phase sensorless operation without Hall sensors
  • Onboard speed potentiometer or external 10 kΩ potentiometer
  • 0–5 V analog or 5 V amplitude, 1–20 kHz PWM speed input
  • DIR direction and BRAKE inputs, active low when connected to GND
  • SC speed signal output for a compatible tachometer
  • Motor stall protection during normal operation; not short-circuit protection

Technical Specifications

Technical Specifications
ModelX10 V3, sensorless
Motor typeLow-power three-phase BLDC; confirm compatibility with the HDD spindle motor
SupplyOperating range 6–20 V DC; source-listed limits 5–24 V are not the recommended continuous range
Drive current2 A rated; 3 A peak
Power and headroomSource limit: within 50 W, with low overload tolerance. Recommended within 25 W at 12 V or 40 W at 20 V. Leave headroom; this is not a 50 W continuous rating
Speed controlOnboard potentiometer / external 10 kΩ potentiometer / 0–5 V analog / PWM (5 V amplitude, 1–20 kHz)
Control and feedbackDIR and BRAKE: active low; SC: speed output, match the signal to a compatible tachometer
Motor and power terminalsU / V / W: motor phases; VCC / GND: external DC supply. Confirm board markings; do not rely on wire colors
Source-listed maximum speeds2 poles: 224000 RPM; 6 poles: 74000 RPM; 12 poles: 40000 RPM; 14 poles: 35000 RPM. These are pole-dependent source values, not guaranteed speeds for every motor
Size and weight34 × 27 × 11 mm; approximately 8 g including wires
Protection and coolingNo onboard supply fuse; add an external fuse. Reverse polarity can damage the ICs. Fan cooling is recommended for prolonged full-load use

Wiring and operating notes

Start initial tests at low voltage and current with a current-limited supply. Match motor voltage, current and power before increasing the load. Do not short the outputs, reverse supply polarity or test with high-power motors. Before using an external 10 kΩ potentiometer, turn the onboard potentiometer fully counterclockwise to minimum. The supplied material does not include its pin-to-pin wiring diagram; confirm terminal assignments first. Stall protection applies during normal operation and does not imply short-circuit or reverse-polarity protection. Circuit schematics are not provided.

Applications

  • Driving and evaluating compatible HDD spindle motors
  • Low-power three-phase BLDC fans, air pumps, water pumps or oil pumps after compatibility testing
  • Compact embedded motor-control projects
